Clarity™ ?the difference is clear

Producing furniture in the San Francisco Bay Area requires operating under some of the most stringent air quality control standards in the Unites States. Clarity? ? Metro?s new water-borne finish for wood ? sets a new standard by reducing VOC emissions to less than 1/5 of that allowed by Bay Area requirements; a remarkable achievement for protecting the environment.

Clarity? sets a world-class standard for a durable, environmentally responsible, and beautiful water-borne finish. Research and rigorous testing have led to a unique combination of German engineering & Canadian formulation of UV materials, blended together with American ingenuity.

Research for the new finishing system began with a formidable challenge to the Manufacturing Group: to comply with environmental laws ? do not use abatement equipment to reduce the VOC?s released by solvent-based finishes ? but instead, create an entirely new type of finish that requires no abatement at all. The high bar was raised even higher when the Manufacturing Group challenged itself to not only formulate an environmentally responsible finish, but one that would also distinguish itself with exceptional clarity.

An extensive search led Metro to Germany, where we found a company that develops high-performance equipment capable of producing a water-borne UV spray finish that would protect clean air. Among the notable features of this system is the way excess water is reclaimed from the finishing process and recycled for other processes such as mixing water-based stains.

The formulation of water-borne UV material used in the finishing process was achieved through rigorous experiments that are as much an art as they are a science. Having explored a variety of materials from sources around the world, a Canadian company was selected for their unique formulation.

Metro formulated and reformulated, tested and retested the new UV materials with the new spray finishing system until a combination so exceptional was invented ? the achievement was named for its distinguishing characteristic: Clarity?.
